ANTI-BULLY BOOT CAMP

The focal point of the event was “Bullying” and the different forms our kids face at school, in the community and on the internet commonly known as “Cyber Bullying”. This event was organized and structured to give tangible resources to attendees to help protect them from bullying. The event was held on Aug. 12-14, 2010 at the Children’s Museum of Houston it was a free, three-day Anti-bully training session for parents, kids and educators.

The sessions included professional instruction on the following topics:

  • Recognizing if your child is a target or the bully.
  • Understanding your legal rights in protecting your child.
  • How to train yourself to oversee your child’s computer communication.
  • What does bullying look like?
  • Self-esteem as an anti-bullying tool.
  • Tips for Educators.

The event was speared headed by Kathy Williams Assistant News Director KPRC 2. Participating partners were  Anti-Defamation League; Appelbaum Training Institute; Children’s Museum of Houston ; Foston International; Houston Family MagazineHouston Independent School District; Houston Rockets;  Mix 96.5; National Center for Youth Issues; NFL Players Association Houston Chapter; Andre Davis, Houston Texans; Matt Turk, Houston Texans; Author Julia Cook; Noo Day Entertainment; Winstead PC; Theater Under The STARS and Attorney Wilka Toppins.

Jacobs Professional Womens Collaborative “Adopt-A-Family”

The Jacobs Professional Womens Collaborative working with the Houston Children’s Charity Adopt-A -Family to make sure that families in dire need of help and would not other wise have had assistance were able to enjoy and not miss out in the happiness of Christmas.

2010 Rachel McNeil Fore Kids Sake Golf Classic

Sept.16, 2010 –The 2010 Rachel McNeill “Fore” the Kids’ Sake Golf Classic which was a huge success for Big Brothers Big Sisters, raising $85,000 for the agency.

NFL Alumni Houston Charity Golf Classic

 The NFL Alumni Golf Classic benefits the Be An Angel Fund. The Funds raised went to help Children with Multiple Disabilities and Profound Deafness. Be An Angel Fund was created in 1986 by a concerned parent that discovered the overwhelming needs of the multiply handicapped and profoundly deaf students at T.H.Rogers Elementary School . Twenty years later, Be An Angel serves thousands of children in the Houston area providing specialized programs, services and equipment.

MD Anderson Cancer Center and Theatre Under The Stars, Former NFL players with the Huddle Up Foundation visited pediatric patients at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center to celebrate the day and encourage reading. Patients gathered in the clinic and the Pi Beta Phi library of the Childrens Cancer Hospital to hear their some of their Dr Seuss favorites read by the NFL Former players made the stories come alive for the kids.

Read Across America Day was hosted by the Pediatric Education Program and served as a fun way to encourage reading and motivate patients to stay on track with their education. The Huddle Up Foundation and the Former NFL Players have participated in 2010 and 2011.

Continental Airlines “A Trip to the North Pole”

If a picture says a thousand words then you have to watch the video of “A Trip to the North Pole” Christmas event to get a true appreciation of the joy this event brought to the lives of all those involved.

The employees of Continental Airlines and TUTS hosted ‘A Trip to the North Pole’; a memory making holiday extravaganza for Houston area children, suffering from the effects of various forms of life threatening illnesses. Children attending were being treated by or affiliated with Texas Children’s Hospital, MD Anderson & the Muscular Dystrophy Association. 

It was their goal to gift these special kids with a few hours of fun, and make memories to last a lifetime for them and their families. This virtual flight to the North Pole took place on December 11, 2010 from 10:00am – 1:30pm, and was located at the Continental Hangar B just east of Houston Intercontinental Airport terminal buildings. There were  interactive arts and crafts, games, face painters, clowns, puppeteers, ventriloquist, musicians, magicians, food (and more food), candy, goodie bags and more!
