This past weekend on Saturday 16, 2011, members of the NFL Former Players Houston Chapter and I participated in the 2011 Houston Stroll for Epilepsy held at the Houston Zoo. I got going a little late Saturday morning but still managed to make it on time. We signed autographs, told a few jokes and had a super fun time being at the event. There were an estimated two thousand people participating at the event. I even got to do the 10.9.8.7.6— count down to start the stroll. That was fun. I’m a natural.
Cyberonics was the corporate sponsor for the event. They presented the Epilepsy Foundation Texas with a check for right around $77,000.00. It was one of those big oversized card board checks. It was so big the person it was presented to almost dropped it while trying to accept it. I guess you probably had to be there to get the funny.
After leaving the stroll, I had to double back home to change clothes. I put on only the most perfect colors in the world (purple and gold) and headed to the Greater Houston LSU Alumni Crawfish boil held at Wild West restaurant. I got there early to fulfill my duties as part of the event set up team and boy did we work to set things up.
The event is important as the money we raise as a chapter goes back to LSU to aid funding scholarships. Plus, we want to have the biggest card board check to give among all of the chapters. That’s right San Diego we coming for ya.
